The AK-47, or AK as it is officially known, also known as the Kalashnikov, is a gas-operated, 7.62×39mm assault rifle, developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. The AK-47 which has killed more people than any other, it's a weapon of choice for guerrillas, terrorists and rebels, 100 million are in circulation around the world. Every year, small arms kill between 20,000 and 100,000 people in the world’s conflicts. AK-47s account for a high proportion and quite possibly the majority of this human toll. Since the first prototype was made, the AK-47 has probably dealt death to millions.
